We recently had the opportunity to cover the 2012 Ellis Island Family Heritage Awards event for television and internet viewing. The event was presented by the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Foundation celebrating and honoring some of the great people who influence our world who’s families immigrated to America. The award recipients included Tony La Russa, Richard Meier, and Angela Lansbury.

I was deeply moved by the contribution these individuals had made to the world in which we live. They followed their passion and dreams that only America could offer and in return gave back so much influencing the world around us. Tony La Russa’s managing style helped lead several major league baseball teams to World Series victories. Richard Meier’s architectural work is bold, spacious, and awe striking. Angela Lansbury’s mezmorizing performances have touched all of our hearts in some way or another.

As we interviewed Ms. Lansbury, who at 86 currently stars on Broadway in “The Best Man”, she spoke of the risks her family made escaping war torn Europe just before the Nazi blitz on London. The ship they traveled to North America was under constant threat of torpedo attack. Yet with a hope and belief in something better they arrived in New York City to make a new life for themselves and begin as Angela said, “…an amazing ride!” Angela has starred in nearly 60 films, won five Tony awards and has been seen on countless television shows including starring in “Murder, She Wrote”,  the highest-rated television drama series for a record twelve seasons.  She has touched so many and feels so lucky to have had that opportunity.

We spent two days, with a five to seven man crew,  at various locations including an actual hospital operating room. The RED was a delight to work with and created some beautiful images.

We’re all looking for a way to streamline what we do in business by reaching more people and making more money in less time. I don’t know of anyone who went into business to spend more time in their business. Most people I know, including myself, went into business to have more time to do what they want in life.
