Liberty Ellis Foundation

The Challenge

The Liberty Ellis Foundation needs no introduction. Ellis Island was the gateway for millions of immigrants to the United States from 1892 until 1954. The has hosted near annually a "Family Heritage Awards". The awards celebrate the life and work of individuals who immigrated to America through a different port than Ellis Island. We have filmed their awards events, including celebrity interviews, for many years. Hurricane Sandy severely damaged The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It took time to rebuild.

With the repairs near completion, the Liberty Ellis Foundation planned to host its first awards celebration since Hurricane Sandy. Their plans included an evening, rather than day, gala in the Great Hall. The foundation asked TeleStory Pictures to create tribute films for honorees in a style like that of the Kennedy Center Honors.

The Solution

Several months were spent working closely with Liberty Ellis Foundation to produce the segments. The segments included researching, interviewing, traveling, gathering stories, photos, and memorabilia for honorees Diane Von Furstenberg, Patti LuPone, and Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Collaborating with the foundation, we developed scripts, cast voice-over talent, and music selections. As a result, the three films successfully set the ambiance for the evening's awards gala. Additionally, we filmed the evening gala event.
